ENDLESS POOL NOW OPEN

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF WATER-BASED EXERCISE AT THE PIKE PHYSICAL THERAPY & FITNESS CENTER’S ENDLESS POOL

Accordingto the US Census Bureau, swimming is the forth most popular sports activity in the United States and a good way to get regular aerobic physical activity.  There are so many health advantages of water-based exercise that all ages can benefit from.

Swimming, water aerobic classes, and aqua therapy help improve health and wellness of people sufferingfrom chronic diseases.  For those with arthritis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis, exercisingin water improves the use of affected joints without worsening symptoms and has the ability to decrease overall pain.  Individuals with fibromyalgia, as well as arthritis, are able to recuperate quicker from water-based exercise compared to traditional land weight and cardio training.

People across the age span with musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and other disorders and medical conditions all benefitgreatly from water-based exercise and therapy.  The buoyancy, support, accommodating resistance and other unique properties of the aquatic environment enhance interventions with a therapist, allowing for a smoother, quicker, and less painful transition from injury or surgery to full range of motion and health.

Water activities improve mental health, not only in the average adult, but also in children and adults with developmental disabilities.  Families with Special Olympic Swim athletes find that swimmingnot only improves their child’s mood, but also strengthens them physically, socially, cognitively, along with improved family connections.

And of course, water-based exercise is great for overall health for every body, from little ones to aging ones! Swimming increases endurance and cardiovascular strength.  Water aerobics improve balance, coordination, and agility.  They both improve body mechanics and posture stabilization, as well as flexibility, muscular strength and power.

No need to wait until summertime to play in the water, PikePhysical Therapy & Fitness Center is building an Endless Pool!  An 18’ by 14’ pool with 2 jet-propelled currents and 1 underwater treadmill will be available for aqua therapy, as well as swim lessons, water aerobics, lap swim, kids’ birthday parties, and coach’s rental.  A March Grand Openingis planned.  For more information, please call us at: 570-686-4300 or check out the latest pictures on our facebook page!
